The National Conference of Friendly Societies at Edinburgh, representing a membership of four millions,, rejected-a proposal to. urge the Government to postpone the Insurance Bill for a year, and resolved, that while accepting the main provisions, to demand alterations conferring self-government on approved societies, with a majority'of representation on Health Committees; earners of over £160 to be permitted to become voluntary subscribers without a Government subsidy.
