Seven are raving mad as the result of their experiences, and oth- } ers' minds are unhinged. The majority are penniless. Many fell on their knees ; imploring the aid of the journalists and j officials who boarded the Castlo of ; Grath, and clamoured for food and wat-! or, holding up- emaciated children. 4 The refugees state that an.infuriated.: mob of Arabs and Turks besieged the: Italians in their Consulate until a bat-• taliori of Turkish" infantry escorted them j to the' Castle of Grath, whence the ad- j miral transferred the Italian refugees'
to'another ship, owing to the crowded condition.
