WANGANU v. TAIHAPE,

A team from Taihape visited Wanganui yesterday to play a return match ■with thb local rrimrsday reps. On tho previous occasion Wanganui suffered defeat at tlie hands of the home team, by 4 to nil and were on this occasion very keen to reverse the result. The' honours went to the iooal team by 2 goals to 1. ' Tho match v/as played on the Racecourse, and the small gathering of spectators foimnd an improved opinion of the calibre of the Main Trunk players. Taihape put a really good team in the field, and ran the Thursday reps.—who v.oro not a-weak team—very close for premier position. The country team were a lot of energetio players, with plenty of pace, and not without ability in stick-play. The ground was rough, rougher than eithor team were used to, and combined play was almost out of tho question. Wanganui's scores were due to the superior stickwork of Hodges. His second goal was the result of a neat passing rush, by him and Kernohan. Although leading by two goals, Wanganui could not be said to have had much the better of the game If they had the better of the -first spell, Taihape woke up in the second, and Wanganui had many anxious momonts. Olliver (Taihape) got in a good shot, but although Morgan stopped tho ball well, he -was unfortunately standing behind tho goal-lino, and the score was recorded against Wanganui. Morgan saved another "hot" .*hot. and tho goal had to bo cleared on several occasions. The-Wanganui backs had a busy time, Armstrong at half being the most prominent. Hodges and Kernohan were conspicuous among the forwards, as also were McDowell and Goldsbury. Sourdle and Harrison played wel! amongst the backs. The game was of a very friendly nature, nnd while strenuous there was no rough play. Tho tci>ms will look forward to mertiner arrain.
