PRESBYTERIAN SYNODS.
ETJXEDIN, April 12
The Presbyterian Synod of ,Qtago and Southland unanimously carried a motion approving of the efforts of the University Senate to get Parliament to pass the necessary legislation for granting a degree in Divinity, and asking every Presbytery in the country to jiass similar resolutions. St. Margaret's College established bj the Presbyterian Church for the accommodation of lady students from the eouaiiy, was opened by the Synod this afternoon. In the evening discussion took place with reference to a congestion niade by Lieut. Thorns that congregations- should combine in the matter -of securing offireis roi cadet corps iii their districts. It was decided to instruct Presbyteries to make what provision they thought desirable to aneet the situation created by the Government's compulsory tram'itig 'scheme.
An amendment by the Rev. A. Ca-m----eion, that the Synod advise congregations, as such," to stand aloof from the whole question, wa.? lost by 20 votes to 12.
