MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION.

<?HRISTCHURCH, March 18. The annual conference of .delegates from centres affiliated to tho New Zealand Amateur Athletic Associaion was held this morning. Mr D. Hoare ("Auckland) was voted to the chair and Mr R. T. Wynham was appointed secretory.

Mr Pollock moved that the allocation of the Australasian championship meetimr is entirely a matter for the council, but the motion was lost by 7 votes to 5. Subsequently it was agreed that the next Australasian championship meeting should bo held at J>unedin. A motion by Mr Short that the conference strongly recommends fixing the date of the New Zealand championship meeting for the month of February wan carried unanimously. Mr Keddell moved that the next New Zealand championship meeting siiou'd be held in Southland, and the motion was agreed to. The coriferenca unanimously supported a suggestion from Otago that an Athletic Calendar should be published n\ New Zealand

Bert Campion, the well-known Ibca: athlete, returned to Wanganui yesterday from Blenheim, where he competed at the Hibernian Society's St. Patrick's Day sports meeting. Campion took part m three events—the Publicans' Handicap (100 yds.), St. .Patrick's Grand Handicap (150 yds.), and the Seddon Handicap (half-mile). In the Publicans' and Seddon Handicaps he was unplaced but ran with success in the big event' the St. Patrick's Grand Handicap, for \>hich there were, six prizes, viz. £60 £20, £10, £5, £3, and £2. Campion ran in the third heat and led for the whole distance and'won easing up He started off the 12yds. mark, the time being io Q-Eseo. Eight men turned out for the final: Darby (12yds), Campion (12yds.), Leahy (12yds.), Yellan (14yds), Donnelly (7yds), Foster (14yds), Kinsey (p-ds). and McLeod (12yds). Leahy was first out after the pistol went, but Uarby assumed the lead afc the halfoistance, and won by a few inches, alter a ding-dong "go" with Campion, who beat Leahy by the narrowest of margins. V«il.- iri was f our th a . few inches away, McLeod fifth, and Foster sixth, close together. Kinsey finished ahead of Donnelly for seventh place. Ihe time registered was losee., which, talcing the ground into consideration ', was very good. A protest was lodged against Darby by Campion, who alleged that Darby won a handicap two months previously at Wuihi, under a different iiame. Both men, were subsequently Photographed for the purpose of identification. Campion also states a camera snap on the finishing post shows him in the lead by about a foot. The result of the protest will not be known tor somo days yet, but Campion is hopeful of his protest being upheld
