BRISBANE, March 20

The chief medical officer of Manilla, l.as arrived. He gives a vivid descripiion of the recent eruption at the island of TaaJ. The explosion was heard at a distance of 250 miles, and was followed by a tidal wave, whicli swept six miles inland, the inhabitants being lerternunated, 'the only living fthing found being a monkey. All the' bodies have been recovered, about 1,500 bein^ completely naked.

The seismic wave travelled to the -town of Lemery, the conn-try around subsiding to a depth of 6ft.,
