THE CONVENT CONCERT.

The Opera House was crowded in j every part last night, when the pupils ] of the Sacred Heart Schools gave their g annual entertainment. These entei- , tainments are always looked upon as < one of the most enjoyable annual fix- ■ trares, and it is certain that not one ot the hundreds present last night was dis- i satisfied with the fare provided. lne ■ Sist-ers at the Convent have devoted a, - great deal of time and energy to the • entertainment, and their reward came ; to them in the unstinted applause be- ;l stowed on each separate item. lli« ;■ pupils all seemed to ehtsr into the spirit I of the concert, and by their very ; happiness and love of the work to ma- : part happiness to the onlookers. Hie ; programme was too long to permit ot ■ individual criticism, but every separate item was thoroughly enjoyable, and worthy of its place in a programme or , a v€iry high standard. Two items call . for a special word of praise, and they j are the operetta, "Queen Flora's Day | Dreani," in which the principal characters were very cleverly sustained by Vera Neylon and Moira Pawson. Both ! thetse young ladies sustained their parts { witll credit, and.spoke their lines with : a .clearness and charm that reflected ] much credit on their teachers. . There j were about 20 other children concerned i in this operetta, and they all.danced i and sang cleverly. The .other item was the "Flower Drill," in which over 50 j pupils of all ages went through most , intricate evolutions for about twenty J minutes in a particularly graceful manner". These two items were enhanced by the splendid dressing and mounting and also by, beautiful limelight effects. ~ The following items comprised the balance of the programme:-—Fart song, "To Sylvia; 5' Convent Pupils; piano- • ( fort© trio, " Gloria in Escelsis," Misses v D.
