WANGANUI CALEDOHIAN SOCIETY.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Society was held at tho Newmarket Hotel on Wednesday evening, the 2nd inst. Thoso present were: Mr D. Ross (president), Messrs. It. G. McNivcn, W. Glasgow, P. Lewis, P. Mcßrearty, J. Wilson, G. Ross, W. Perrett, and the Secretary. Tho President, in a few opening remarks, complimented the committee (Messrs. Glasgow, Herd, Lewis, and the Secretary), who so. ably assisted' towards the success of the annual banquet in August. A letter was received from the' Governor (Lord Islington), kindly donating a five-guinea medal to be competed for at the annual sports meeting; also from Mr R. Catto, Aberdeen, Scotland, presenting a silvelr bowl; R. Mathie^on, Manager, Westport Coal Co., two guineas; the hotelkeepers of Wanganui, tAvo guineas towards the funds of the Association. With support like the foregoing, the programme bids fair to be one of the beet ever submitted to tire public and'competitors. The Borough Council's charges fop Cook's Gardens were discussed at considerable length, the majority of the membeirs being of the opinion that the fifteen pounds offered by the Caledonian Society in the first place was quite adequate for one day's sport, considering the expemse of running the meeting there. The following gentlemen were duly elected as members of the Association: Chas. McDonnell, Roberts, Rev. J. D. McKenzie, Col. Hughes, N. Paterson, Duncan Munro, D. Simpson, Albert Higgie, O G. Webster, C. V. Powell, Donald Stewart, Chas. G. Ross, W. Borlase, L. Nichol, H. V. Hammond, R. Earle, and R. F. Johnstone.
