OF WANGANUI.
The Presbytery of Wanganui met at Marton on September 27th, 1910. There were present: Revs. G. K. ken (Moderator), R. McCully, i). Gordon, J. White, J. D. McKenzie, E. Evans, J. Chisholm, J. B. Hall, A. Doull, J. Ross,, G. Budd, J. Mackic, A. Morton and Messrs R. K. Simpson, J. Mcßetb, G. Scott, J. Macfarland, E. Snow, D. Robb, J. B. Mcßann (elders). Mr. Loan from Rewa and Rev-. E. Walker from Halcombe wero also present.
Rev. E. Eviu,s gave in the l-eport re Special Foreign Missionary Effort. The finding of tho Committee was that special deputations be appointed to visit all the congregations in the Presbytery and lay the scheme before them. The report, was received, and the finding of the Committee was adopted.
Tlie following motion' was moved hy Rev. A. Doull and carried: "That the Presbytery approves of the report, instructs the Committee to place themselves in touch with the P.W.M.IT, and Laymen's Missionary Union, where they exist, to encourage their formation in other places, and the stimulating of interest in Foreign Missions by the carrying out the pronosals of the report. The names of Messrs McKenzie, Morton, Scott, and Simpson were added to the Spfc'al Committee.
Rev. B\idd gave in the report of the Evangelistic Committee. The convenor had written to M'\ and Mrs. dimming, Evangelists of N.S.W.. and rend Mi-. Cumming's renly to the Presbytery. He moved. "Th.it this Presbytery accepts Mr. CuTimiiiG^s terms, and agrees to find him six months' work within their hounds." Applications for nrnnts from tho TTnme Mission Committee were dealt with'
The following Kirk-sessions have the right to send represent-aive elders to the General Assembly: St. Paul's, Wangiimii (Mr. W. Benge) ; Turakina (Mr. R. K. Simpson); Mangaweka (Mr. Robb); Huntfrviile (A. McGregor); Palmerston N. (Mr. Snow); Foxton (Mr. McCully). The ministerial representatives are as follows: Revs. J. D. McKenzie, G. Bndd, J. White, J. Mackie, J. Monfries, G. K. Aitken, R. McCully and J. Chisholm.
Rev. D. Gordon stated that lie wished to beg the Presbytery to request the Assembly to receive his resignation, on account of failing health, the resignation to take effect at aij early'date He mentioned that he had been 26 years minister of Marton, ana 3S years a minister of the Gospel. Rev. J. Ross, the o'dest member of the Wanganui Presbytery, spoke very feelingly of the splendid service Mr. Gordon had done in Marton, and moved that Mr. Gordon's requpst bo granted.
The Rev. Andrew Cameron, on tho motion of Rev. G. Budd, was nominated as Moderator of Assembly.
A site and building have been purchased at Tokomarn. in Shannon District.
It was proposed that henceforth the Presbytery should meet three times a year at Palmerston North, twice at Marton, and once at Turakina, also that Home Missionaries be invited more frequently to attend the meetings of the Presbytery. The Committee's proposal was agreed to.
The Rev. A. Doull moved "That the Wanganui Presbytery respectfully calls upon the Government to place the Local Option Poll "on a more democratic basis, and to grant a Dominion vote npon the licensing question.— Carried unanimously. :
For several years the Rev. D. Gordon has acted as Treasurer of Presbyt^i'y.funds: and the following motion was cordially agreed to: "That this^ Presbytery cordially thanks Mr. Gordon for his services to the Presbytery as Treasurer of the* Expenses Fund. His kindnoss and courtesy to his brethren hays IVeen much appreciated, and wilJ be Vina: '"emembered.' '
The Presbytery adjourned to meet at Turakina on Friday, loth December.
