(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 31. TII3 Conference of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals deckled not to ask for a Government subsidy. It was decided to ask Government to allocate to the funds of local societies the fines inflicted in Court for cruelty to animals. After discussion of the Jewish methods of slaughtering, it was decided to recommend the Government to inquire whether the stunning of cattle should I>b permitted in New Zealand abattoirs as against the practice of pithing. A deputation««fsom. the Conference is to wait on the "Minister of .Justice! to lay the various matters before him.
