Convention platform .would strongly approve President Ta'ft's administration. Senator Sherman/urged President Tali to write a letter early for publication and sound the keynote of the Congressional campaign, especially upholding the Payne tariff. He pleaded for an old-fashion-ed Republican campaign on old-fash-ioned lines. It is understood that Pipsident Taft promised, but will frame iv letter in accordance with his own judgiiisnt. It, is understoodl Senator; Sherman and President Taft agreed that it was impossible that Senator Ci.nnon could be re-elected to the Speakership.

Progressive Republicans are vigorously working- for the control of the New York -Ixmvehrfcion, in-, .order to secure Mr Roosevelt's chairmanship. Mr Roo3evelt has arranged a strenuous -speech-making tour, starting on the 27th.
