Tho death is announced of Mr G. P. Hawtrey, thewell-known English actor. A Sydney cable announces the death of Mrs Gordon, wife cf Brigadier-Gen-eral Gordon of New South Wales, who h State Commander. '""'Sir" A. G. Wise, lately a member ol the.-staff, of ,■ the Wairarapa Daily Times, has accepted''a-position on the staff of tho Dominion, Wellington. • Wo are pleased to notice that Miss Edith Pinches, daughter of Mr W. Pinches, of Wanganui, has been awarded a gold medal for winning the soprano solo competition at Napier. Mr F. W. G. M'Leod, for many years associated with the Oamaru Garrison Band in its heydey, and later conductor of tho Masterton Band, has been appointed conductor of the Armidale Band (New South Wales); which two years ago won the championship at; Ballarat.
