Tho Hon. A. Deakin thought the better way would be to reduce the'cable rates for tho Press and thus involve the Government in no responsibility. If a subsidy were'given the .Government would bo responsible for the character of tho news given. He supported the Bill, as ho claimed that better competition was needed.
