HAWKE'S BAY DEFEATS MANAWATU.

HawWs Bay defeated Manawatu today, after a, well-contested match. A heavy wind blew down the ground, Manawatu having it with them in the first spell. Hawks's Bay scored a try (immediately ion tliie kick-off. Then "Manawatu had the advantage for the rest of toe spell, but could not score' enough owing to Hawke's Bay's fins defence. Manawatu got two tries and a penalty goal) (nineiyiwl and a penalty goal (9 points) to 2 tries. On order being changed Hawke's Bay, with tli-e wind, /ang up 14 more points, two potted goals by Fitzgerald (full-back) and Smith, and one penalty goal by Fitzgerald. JVl^Cnrmick. also got a try. The game ended "0 to 9. A high wind made the ball very difficult to handle.
