A GOOD YEAR.
The shareholders of the Company in particular, and the residents of the district generally, will learn with pleasure of the marked succass which has attended the operations of the Wanganui I'roezing Company during . the past year. Tho annual report, which we publish this 'morning, discloses the fact that the Company's net profit for the year ended 31st July amounts to the substantial sum of £12,721. Contrasted with the gloomy story of loss and disappointment which was the outstanding feature of the previous year's L>al-ance-sheot, the eminently satisfactory results which have attended the past year's operations must be doubly gratifying to all concerned, and especially to the directors and responsible officers of tho Company. As we pointed out ?.t tho time, the heavy loss of the previous year was due to cireiunstaiu'tfs over which these responsible for tho conduct of the Company's business had no control, circumstances which the wisest could not have foreseen, and which.exorcised a similarly adverss effect on. practically the whole freezing industry. It Mas a.lean year, a year of depression, and its effect was sadly evidenced in the balance-sheets of pretty well every company engaged in tho frozen ,meat business. Now, however, the shareholders of the local company have had the winter of their dis-
content made glorious summer by a season which has turned the balance to the happy side of profit,' while, to add to the pleasure which the change must afford, tho prospects of continued prosperity are rosy with promise for the ensuing year. We note, too, that the directors are continuing the progressive and 'enterprising policy which has characterised their past administration of tho Company's affairs, and that the already spacious works are to be considerably 'enlargedr We heartily congratulate tho directors and the management upon the marked —we might almost use tho word" phenomenal —success which liar; attended their efforts, and we trust1 that at the expiry of tho current year they will bo able to show nn equally gratifying result.
