DEATH OF A PRINTING MACHINIST

. WELLINGTON, August 14. Mr P. C. Southward, pi-inting machinist, died this morning at the comparatively early age of 38. He was a native of London, and his father was one of the foremost printing experts of his day—a man of world-wide reputation in regard to his knowledge oi typography and printing machinery. The jate Mr P. C. Southward came to Wellington to erect new machines for the "Evening Post," and he also erected the machinery for the newspaper "Dominion," and was machinist for the "New Zealand Times." Previously to coming to New Zealand he was in Johannesburg during the war, and was there commandeered by Lord Kitchener to do Government printing. He also fittsd lip machinery for the "Australian Star" in Sydney. In his profession he was a man of remarkable'"ability, having a, complete knowledge of tho exceedingly intricate printing machinery of to-day. Ho was, too, of a most genial and kindly disposition, and exceedingly well informed. A widow and two children survive hinz.
