CHRISTCHURCH, August 14

After threats of bad weather in the morning, a fine day was experienced for the conclusion of the Grand National meeting, which attracted a very good attendance. The racing generally was interesting and speculation brisk, the totalisator investments being £20,----505, as against- £18,439 for the concluding d?iy last year. Forty-six bookmakers were licenced. Results:— United Hiint Club Steaplechnsa. — Oakley 1, King of Trumps 2, Liberty 3. Also (started.—GMenga-riff, Tyran'rnc, Lagmhor, Ever, Larry Lynx, and Tlmiiderstorm. Won by two and a half .lengths. Time 5.18. ' - Hoathcote Handicap.—Nyland 1, Rcse Noble 2, Wimmsra 3. Also started : Penates, Waucbope, Sharpshoctsr, Misw Doric, Adjudge, Royal Marine, Zetland, Gold Braid, and Pinul. Won by a length and a half. Time 1.32 1-5. Styx Hack Hurdle Handicap.—Tyrant'l. Ai-cliprht 2, Rifle Range 3. Also started.—White Cockade, Tahu, Appin, St. Atnelia. and Goldpin. Won by a length and a half. Time 3.9 4-5. Sydenham Hurdle Handicap.—Prophet 1, Master Paul 2, Paritutu 3. Also started: Compass, Tauira, Woolloomoolloo, Stayboy, Stone Ginger, Aorangi, Waitapu. Southern Cross, and Jack Ashore. Master Paul made the running for over a mile, but was then joined by Prophet, who won by two and a half lengths. Time 3.22. Lincoln Steeplechase.—Te Arai 1, Red McGregor 2, Loch Fyne 3. Also started: Kiatere. Loreil, Slir Lethe, Honest Tom. Le Beau, and Bullworth. Te Arai took charge going along the back the second time, and won by 50 yards. Time 6.14. Capital. Honest Tom Kiatere and Bullworth fell.

Redcliffs Handicap.—Ponga 1, Brilliancy 2, Bercola 3. Afcp,. started: Tlmeraboy, Guianoforte, Brasenose, Adage, Canterbury, Eaglestone. Mediterranean, and St. Kerwin. Won: by two lengths. Time 1.33 2-5. Selwyn Handicap.—Eleetrakoff 1, North East 2, Los Angelos 3. Also started: Federal, Prim, Mon Ami, Scotcli Plaid, Cashier, Medallist, cind TnchWonnv. 'Wnn by three-quarters of a length. Time 1.18 2-5. Hunters' Plate Handicap.—Howick 1. Totika 2, vSoaniard 3. Also startfrl: Mauri, Cfiniton.• Kin!?swny, Red King, Lady Creswick, and Nanoleou. Won by half a head. Time 2.51 1-5.
