WELLINGTON MATCHES
(Per Pres* Association.) WELLINGTON, August 14. Tho senior football matches yesterday resulted:—Oriental 12, Poneke 3; St. John's 3, Athletic 0; Wellington 5, Victoria College 0; Southern 12, Melrc.se 0. Old Boys won by default from Hutt. This gives the Orientals the championship for the season. In the Schoolboys match Wairarapa, defeated Wellington by five- to nil. Owing to liynn and Wilson being unable to accompany the reps.' team to Auckland Bruce (St. James') and Wal&ho (Poneke) were elected to fill the vacancies. To-day, however, Walshe notified the selectors that he would be unable to travel, and E. Roberts (St. James') will now make the trip. Tily.nrd (Poneke) lias been unable to obtain the necessary loave of absence, and a further selection will be necessary.
Messrs. A. Williams. J. Paton, and H. Mayer haw selected -ihe following team to represent "Wellington in the Tirown Shield (Association) match. Otago v. Wellington, to be played at the Basin Reserve on Saturday next:— C. Webster (Ramblers), goal; W. Robert?: (Diamonds), right back, P. Cornish (Olympic), left back; M. Kirschber (Swifts), right half, J. Bradbury (Rovers), centre half; W. Jackson (Ramblers), left half; H. Smallbono (Ramblers), right wing. C. Vcssey (Swifts), inside right, W. Gibson (Rovers), centre forward. A. Mount (Olympic), inside left, E. Tiniperley (V.M.C.A.), outside it it. Reserves: J. Pyo-smith (Suifts),
bade; R. Paget (Ramblers), half; C. O'Shea (Hearts), and Trevithick .(Ramblers).
