FIRES

AT'DUNEDIN

(Per Press Association.) . DUNEDIN, July 14

Tho old Kaikorai Junction Hotel, now used as a private boardinghou.se, and containing twenty rooms, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The ,houso was owived by Mrs Elizabeth Johnson, of the? North.lsland, and was occupied by John Roes, his wife and brother-in-law. . The fire is supposed to havo been caused by a defective 'chimney. The house and furniture were totally destroyed. The insurances on the building vyera £500 in the Royal, and on tho ■ furniture £225 in the Alliance. The pJace ; which was old and consbruct'ed'of wood, burnt out in half an hour. One of -t-hej inmates had to ■escape by a window.
