N.Z. RUGBY UNION

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 12. The Management Committee of the N.Z. Rugbf* Union mot to-night. Tlco Bullcr Union forwarded an appeal by a player against his disqualification for bad language. The sentence which had been passed was one of three years suspension. He stated he had had no notice of the -meeting at which ho was disqualified, so that he was condemned unheard. He based his appeal, en the ground that the Buller Union had not abided by its by-laws. It isprovided that the Union shall hold its■nquiry into the case of a man who hasbeen ordered off the field within six. days of the alleged offence. In thiscaso this had not been done. The Chairman remarked that ft was clear that an. offence had been committed and that, tho sentence had bean merited, lfcwould be a crime to allow an appeal ort a technicality, and thus allow an offender to escape punishment. The ap-, peal was'dismissed.- , , ■ . The Feilding Club appealed against, the decision of the Management Committee of the Manawatu Union to the effect that the recent Feilding OldBoys match was a bona fide Cup match and had been so understood by the maiority of members of the Committee. Tho 'Union's rules provide that wherea team fails to play on two consecutive occasions or three times at intervals it shall be considered to have withdrawn from the competition. The Old Boys defaulted twice in succession and then played Feilding, the latter thinking the match was merely arranged to give the players a game, and that it did not count in the Cup competition. It was decided to inform the Manawatu Liuon that the matter was one which must bo decided locally, and one over which, the N.Z Union had no jurisdiction^ A player appealed against the decision of the West Coast Union in refusing toremove a disqualification for life placed upon him for having used bad lantnia"O <>n two occasions in lyua. lie r3 to be informed that the matter can r not bo considered unless the West Coast Union has any recommendation to make.
