OPERA HOUSE.
THE THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES
There was a very fair audience at the Upera House on Thursday night when Messrs Thompson and Payne submitted their third programme' of pictures. A good variety was shown and tiie nlms comprised several beautifully coloured studies, one in particular--JLgypt from Sunrise to Sunset"—beinaone of the best of its kind ever shown here. This was undoubtedly the finest picture on the programme, 'and its last phase-sunset—may well oe classed in the category of things .sublime and beautiful.. Another coloured film of merit was ''Scenes on the Rhine." The dramatic pictures were good "Fools of
Fate," an American picture, being very clever, and introducing some of the faces that are now growing familiar; and popular. The airship destroyer is rather a fantastic conception, hut still is a crude presentment of what w© may expect of warfare in another decade. The management might, however, have omitted such a picture as. the "Fly Pest" for presentation, ag this, however, interesting it may have been to a scientist, is not calculated to raise any feeling but of nausea in the average spectator. The comic pictures as usual provoked roars of laughter, and showed much ingenuity of construction, the programme as a whole beir.g a most excellent one.
