WESTPORT, Jannavy 22. The Railway Department and the coal companies are in conflict over' ti;<? charge of £3, which the Department is making for special trains for the carriage ol coal The charge has never been, made previously, the Railway Department bsing content, formerly with the. freight on coal, which amounts, inclusive of handling, weighing, etc.. to close on £1 a truck (2s Gd~per ton on 7£ tons -co the truvk) with a minimum of, say, pbout 40 trucks to a train. The com-pni-s contend that oxtra trains-should bc> run to suit the Agencies of .shipping at the bar harbo:i\ and to facilitate the working of the mines as regularly a-, possibly but theßailway Department iiold that every special service should be additional to the freight paid for.
