OHAKUNE NOTES.

The usual fortnightly meeting of tho Ohakune Town Board was held in the ToAvn Hall last night, when the following Commissioners were present: —Crs. Athy (chair), A. R. Wilkie, J. Quinn, H. W. LitFiewood, and W. S. Buird. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the correspondence was dealt with i\s folloavs : From the Palmerston N^rth Borough Council offering two rubbish carts to the Board, at what they con sidered a cheap price. Proposed that Mr Burges, of Palmerston North, be asked to report on the con J: si on of Hie carts, and generally. Carried.- From Mr Sargent re the AvindoAv broken by one of the Board's employes. Resolved that the matter be !ei'fc in the hands of the Town Clerk to 'le.il with in the meantime. —From Mr '-omoiville re loan. Proposed that the matter l-e placed in the hands of the Board's Solicitor to report on. Carried. The state of the road leading to the rubbish reserve was brought up. and it A^as resolved that the Minister oF Roads and Bridges be asked rj have the road leading to the rubbish reserve opened up, to enable the Board to use the reserve, as the road at present v as impassable. It Avas decided that tenders be «. allot! for the completion of the works in terms of the Engineer's specifications and plans. It was resoived that Crs. Baird ana Little wood should interview the Koids Engineer relative to the cutting in Miro Street near the railway station.
A concert and dance in aid of the school funds is to he held on tho 52j?d instant, when it is hoped that the function will be well patronised by the. public as the School Committee are desirous of placing the school on a sound financial basis. Arrangements are being made for all the local ajid other talent to give items at tko concert.
Mr J. A. Butler is building two fine shops in Main Street near the Post Office. There is great activity ir- the building trade generally at Ohaknue and at Ohakune Station.
The Ohakune Tennis Club are making great strides Avith their courts,, and play should be commenced in the near future. Tho sits chosen by them is an ideal one, being on the bank of the Mangateitei River, making the courts probably one of the prettiest in the district.
A danco given recently in aid of the funds of the Ohakune Station Tennis Club held in the Station Hall, and proved a success in every way, especially financially, which was the main object. The music was all that could be desired. Songs were given by Messrs K. Lowe, Adams, A. Wilkie and Mrs Mason, and extras were played by Misses Johansen, and Mrs Dixon.
Mr F. Carter's new sawmill near Ohakune is almost completed. Mr Carter bns the timber rights over most of the Village Homesteads at Ohakune.
