There was bright weather and a fishtail wind, but despite these not too favourable conditions the 800 range in

the last stage of of the King's Match saw nine possibles recorded, James and Hadfield coming within the list. Clyde made 39 and King and Loveday 48, as the outcome (of the first stage, Howitt retained the lead with 216, with Kefford (Bathurst) a point behind, while James and Hadfield were close up.

The 900 yards began to tell a tale. Howitt reached 258, while James, who was shooting splendidly, made 39, put-, ting him in the lead. Kefford was third, but Hadfield failed, wich 40. The thousand yards ended dismally for some of those who had done well, and they found themiselv«s along with others whose chances had not given them much concern. Crowds surrounded the mounds allotted to Howit^ James and Kefford. The possible was put up by Brians (Queensland) and brought h:'s total equal to that of James, who only put on 36.- Then Howitt went to pieces^ leaving Keffo'rd ahead. Roberts (South Australian), Hill, and Alexander (a New South Welshman), the latter but a boy, held good positions at the finish of tlia 900 yards range, and by excellent shooting on the long range made the finish very interest'ng. Roberts tied with Kefford, while Hill and Alexander wero second with 98. The shoot off was rather hollow. Kefford, who looked the cooler man of the two, mjssed hiri; first three shots.
