VOLUNTEER MANOEURES.
(JL'er 1-ress Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, October 13. Military manoeuvres were conducted at Yaldhurst -to-day by about 400 men of the Christchurch Garrison, about 250 of whom were conveyed from the city to tlie scene of operations by sixty-seven motor cars supplied by members of the Canterbury Automobile Association. Those not so conveyed were taken by train 'the greater portion of the distance, and taken for the remainder by relays of motor cars. The experiment of rapid transportation was a complete success. The idea of the manoeuvres was that a force was attacking Christchurch and that the defending force was sent to repel them. The operations extendedjover a considerable area of country and proved altogether too extensive for the time at the disposal of the troops, with the result that operations did not develop sufficiently to enable the forces to come into contact.
