AUCKLAND, October 14. n At the annual meeting of the South British .Insurance Company; the chairman said the reduction of premiums revenue, which was entirely in the marine section, was caused by the unfavourable conditions of commerce in all parts ?w tlle I world- In the case of the Waratah, nearly the whole of the company s interest ceased with, the discharge of the Durban cargo, the company having only a £200 risk when she left that port. In fire and accident, the .company has- suffered no single loss of a large amount although the losses in both departments were numerous and frequent Hie rates obtainable against fire insurance in New Zealand, the chairman regretted to say remained quite inadequate for the risks undertaken and there did not seem any prospect of an early improvement. Indications throughout the world, however, justified the Jiope for the continued prosperity of the company.
