MONTHLY REPORT,
A meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held? at Mr Browne's office on Wednesday,--, 13th inst.. when there were present r: Miss Jones (acting hon. secretary), Mrs. ' Wickham, Mrs Babbage, Mr * F S_ Smith (inspector), and Mr Browne (chairman).
Letters were received from Mr If— Fleming, of Waverley, re cruelty tq> sheep. The matter was left in" therbands of the police. Mr Fleming was thanked for donations forwardexf 7 through him. In reply to the Wellington Inspector^, it was resolved not to purchase the Humane Cattle-kille:-, an illustration of" which he forwarded.
Mr F. S. Smith acknowledged witßr thanks his appointment. Re watering stock in accommodationr paddocks, it was resolved to refer MrSmith's report on the subject to thenext meeting of the Society. Re travelling stock, it was resolved^ that the chairman communicate wi£E>r the County Council in regard to maJring necessary provision for supplying: water troughs.
In regard to committee meetings. ft> was resolved +hat in future they be held?' on tho third "Wednesday in every niontßr at 4 p.m.
It was resolved that Miss P. MortonJones be appointed permanent honorl--arv secretary.
The Inspector's report was read.amF adopted. It stated that 17 cases of carelessness or cruelty were satisfactorily dealt with, and two horses, onecow, and one dog were destroyed.
Considerable discussion occurred respecting the absence o.f any provisions for assisting sheep maimed when travelling. Tho matter was* finally left in iTif? hands of the Inspector to report nextS^ meeting.
