POLICE COMMISSION.

THE SCOPE OF THE ENQUIRY

(Per Press Association).

' J DUNEDN, July o. With reference to the scope of the Police Commission, Mr Bishop informed a reporter to-night that although he was prohibited from inquiring into the immediate circumstances leading to the dismissal of any members, he held that ho was entitled to inquire as to how these men obtained admission to the fcrce, and their career while in it. He intended to make a personal examination of the record of every man in the force, besides having before him such oral evidence as would be called or volunteered. With reference to the suggestion of political influence, he would call for such letters as had been written to the heads of the Police Department.
