MARTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

_ Tho ordinary meeting was held on Monday evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr R. E. Beckett), Crs Manning, Lyon, Wilde and Sutcliffe,
CORRESPONDENCE. From B. Goile repeating his request that surface water in front of his property be attended to.—Referred to Works Committee.
From C. R,. Cooke. asking permission to erect a signboard on account of the Standard Insurance Co., Ltd. Granted.
From Walter Humphrey, secretary Marton Band, asking what the Council would charge for use of hall for Band concerts.—Decided that no charge be made.
From Robt. Telfer applying for permission to open a drain in front of his property in Wellington Road.—Granted.
From A. Benseman complaining of delay in erection of Western Park boundary fence.—Referred to Park Committee.
From E. Gudapp asking for 30 leads of stripping.* from metal pit in Russell Street.—Referred to Works Committee.
From H. Henderson requesting that road in front of his premises in Toia Street be metalled.—Work to be done.
From several ratepayers drawing attention to the almost impassable state of Lambert Street.—Referred to Works Committee.
The Gas Manager reported that the receipts for the month were £257 12s 3d, and expenditure £232 155.11 d, and the total receipts for Quarter £705 13s s<\, expenditure £872 19s Bd.
Application for street lamps at corner of Stewart and Lollctt Streets, and at comer of Willis Street were referred to the Gas Committee.
Satisfactory arrangemenis are to bo made to have a continuation of water pumping from the Sash and Door Factory on Saturdays and Sundays in case of fire.
A tender of £40 was' accepted for the slacking of firewood on tho reservoir e'ltchment nrca. There was no tender for the purchase, of the wood. Messrs A. M. W'll'"ams and J. C. Meyer, representing Marton Beautifying 'Association asked for a grant toward? their object. They intended henutifying tfie streets generally, and making the Park more attra-"Tvo by laying out flower p'ots.—£lo was granted.
Mr T-. McTndoe on behalf of tbe Firs Brigade* asked if the Council would, take ovt their dre-s uniforms and aMow the Brigade to u«e them for working purposes and promise to ennnly them with n new dre=s uniform. The matter was favourably considered, and term*- are tobe arrange! by na-t-, meet'ng. Mr McJndoo drew the Council's attention that since the Brigade hnd been formed. 31 years a<*o. it had only received £6 for uniforms. The- members hnd obtained their dress uniforms by means of sports meetings.
