Tho {members of the Women's Branch of the.National Defence League are to bo highly commended for their splendid effortss towards securing increased support ajnd.in arousing interest amongst tho mien . and women of Wanganui in regard to universal defence- training on tho li ties so adirimibly set. out by the Council at the headquarters of the National Defence League in Auckland. The Iftcal Council of the women's branch have I since Mr McNab's great public meeting in tho Opera House on Juno 3rd; last, held-noMess than five meetings and enrolled over two hundred .as, - members of the ./National Defence Loagw.e in favour cf universal defence trainij'ng for our youths botween the ageg Jot" 14 > and 21 years. More than • that, j they have embarked on a noble-— Effort/to raise, .funds by instituting an annual "Ambularic© Saturday", for fund^V-'t^^tablishirf several, classes for wom£n -of all ages for instruction in first') aid, lionie nursing and home_ hygien^, under .proper itiedical eupervision. and Examination, wliich shall bo formed into im ambulance brigade and nursing division.. Theri, too, they desjro to as early as po-csiWe,. secure a. duly qualified- paid Wanganui .district nurse for the benefit of our people, whose duties would bo to gi'v© advice and practical a?s:stnnce to those unable through force of circumstances -to ' pay for such in 1 times o£ accident, and illness.
