MAORI TOBACCO.
. In the case there are also some speciments of Maori tobacco or raurau, which was given to the Museum by Te Weri Haeretiturangi, of Parenui. The tobacco is grown by the'natives, and when ready the leaves _ are picked and the stalk or mid-rib is pulled out. It is then hung up to dry, and after a time the leaves are plaited in -the form of a long whip. It is. then doubled up into a small bundle and bound round and round with flax, after which it is hung up to dry for two or three days.' Then it is unloosed and bound up again, arid left to dry and season for three months. Specimens of. the tobacco, loosed and .bound, are on view. '
