THE BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.

AIV who are concerned in the financial welfare of the Dominion, in which phrase is of course included all that pertains to our industrial and commercial Etability, ivill' find much to interest them iii the. lucid, and comprehensive 'report presented by Mr Harold Beau:eliamp_ to the shareholders of the Bank of New: Zealand yesterday. To the .i'Jsha'reliolders.i'.;-in particular^ the report must prove very gratifying, but the satisfactory position disclosed "should also be hailed *-vvith satisfaction by the public generally.. There is throughout the report an air of calm and rational hopefulness and-.of■•'unwavering confidence in the financial solidarity of the Dominion. Mr Beauchamp points with apparently justifiable optimism to the promising indications of a rising financial barometer both in the Mother Country and in the United States. ; As Mr Beauchamp very properly pointed out, our own position depends almost entirely on the measure of improvement shown in Great Britain, our chief market, and, sis he very pertinently adds, we can help to restore the financial equilibrium by pursuing a reasonably conservative policy. He is unquestionably on safe ground when he declares that, even though the conditions existing at the moment may net be as satisfactory "aa we could' wish, -they might be worse, and that by the practice of economy and thrift, aided by our large and varied resources and our favourable climate, we should soon be back on the safe ground of normal prosperity. So far as-the affairs of the Bank of New Zealand are concerned the position shown by the balance-sheet is in itself sufficient to justify the fullest confidence of shareholders and public in tha management of that important institution.
