GISBORNE, June 15

A well attended meeting of citizens took place in the Theia.tre to-night,: to consider the question of defence. His Worship th . Mayor presided, and ,the speeches of the various gentlemen were received with enthusiasm. The follow* resolution was carried unanimously: "That in view of the extreme activity of all nations in training their manhood for military ; purposes, it is '>■ the opinion; of I this meeting that "the time has arrived j when the Government-should introduce legislation requiring all the youths of the Dominion to go through a course.of., military training, so fair as possible be- - fore they arrive at the age.of 21 years, go that -the manhood of this Dominion may be qualified to do their duty in,its defence, should such a necessity arise."-
