WELLINGTON, April 21. The prisoners who had pleaded guilty wero sentenced at the Supreme Court this morning. John David Anderson, thefts of money at Seddon from a man with whom he had been drinking, was sentenced to six months; William Albert Hansen, five charges of false pretences and one of forgery at Eltham, two years. Hansen had been road foreman under the Eltham CountyCouncil, and defrauded that body. Edgar Hope, arson at the Royal Hotel, Palmerston North, five years ; Richard Lynch, breaking and entering and theft, three years. CHRISTCHURCH, April 21.
Ernest Hancock and William Hutchinson, young men, were charged at the Magistrate's Court with assaulting and robbing Henry John Lawrence,- of Ashbuiton Falls, of £65 in money and a cheque for £22 10s on Aprill3. The evidence was that whilst returning from Riccarton races,in a public drag the two accused rifled Lawrence's pocket, the others in the drag not interfering, though Lawrence screamed when the accused robbed him. Both were committed for trial.
