GOVERNMENT'S ACTION SUPPORT-
ED BY FARMERS. • - (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 21, The North Canterbury executive of the Farmers' Union agreed to-day to a motion by Mr Leadley, seconded by Mr Wilfred Hall—" That recognising the imperative necessity of England's maintaining naval supremacy in order to order to keep open our trade routes, and to ensure the safety of our seaborne commerce, this executive hereby expresses its entire approval of Sir J. G. Ward's spirited and timely offer of assistance to the Home Government." At a meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral, Association toiday a motion by Dr. Levinge, seconded by Mr Murphy1 was agreed to viz.:—" That the com? mittee representing the agricultural and pastoral interests of Canterbury, while desiring adherence to constitutional principles in the Government of the country, and regretting that any necessity should arise for departure therefrom, nevertheless, in the emergency of the occasion, entirely approves of the action of Cabinet in recognising their responsibility and meeting the same in a manner worthy of a loyal and patriot tic people by the prompt offer of substantial assistance."
