RAETIHI NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) We were favoured with beautiful Easter weather on Good Friday and Easter Monday, although on the Sunday there was a continuous downpour of rain fr,om early morning until late at night.,.
Services were held at the Anglican Church on Good Friday, conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. Stent), which were well attended, many members of other congregations attending.
On Easter Monday there was a large crowd at the Farmers' Union picnic, which was held at Mr Fraser's farm, about 2£ miles out from Raetihi. After an early lunch sports were held, consisting of boys' and girls' races, tugs of war, and games of all descriptions. During the afternoon settlers from all directions asembled. ,A most enjoyable day was spent by all. Tea was served round at the close of the games. The"Raetihi Brass Band was in attendance.
The Waimarino Mounted Rifles have mado a very successful start, over 40 members attending at the first parade, at which Sergt.-Major Dodd, of Wanganui, was present. The following officers were elected: —Captain, Mr J. Stephenson; lieutenants, Mr T. A. Harris and Mr'W. Risk. Several names were handed in as members, making the the total number on the roil 63. A large number of spectators were present at the parade. *
