At football Poneke defeated Albion (Christchurch) by 38 to nil. and Melrose neat Kaierau (Wanganui) by 5 to nil-
The ground was wet and, slippery, rain falling at intervals. Play in the first named match was uninteresting, the Ponekes practically running over their opponents. , The issue jn the MelroseKaierau contest, however, was practically in the balance to the end of the game. Just before'time was called Melrose broke away and a try was scored and converted.
