AUCKLAND, March 29

An inquiry was opened to-day into the singular circumstances which preceded the death of Benjamin Mores, aged 40, who died yesterday in the Auckland Hospital from injuries received a fortnight ago.

Mary CaSseroni Mores, the deceased's widow, stated that her husband was a native of. Switzerland. She last saw him alive in the Hospital on Saturday. She described a brawl which took place in her boarding-house a fortnight ago, when deceased was hit on the head with a bottle by one of the men in the house.
