BODY FOUND IN THE RIVER.

As the stesiiner Waimarie was coming down the river from Pipiriki yesterday morning, Captain Nicholls' attention was drawn to the body of a man floating in the water opposite Kaiwhaike, about ten miles from Wanganui. The body was identified as that of WilJiam Hedges, late carter for Messrs Turnbull and Co. The deceased, who was about 42 years of age, and a single man, went to Mr Caine's place at TJpokongaro last Saturday, and stayed till early on Monday morning of last week, leaving before any of the family wore about. As his watch was found to have stopped at a quarter to four it it thought that he must ha,ve by some means got straight into the river. Deceased was a quiet steady man. An inquest will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon.
