A Sydney cable says that Mr J. H. Geddes, prominently connected with the meat trade, has died in England. A Sydney cable announces the death of Mrs Molyneux Parkes, president of the Women's Liberal League.
Professor David, of the Artarctic expedition,,, left Wellington for Sydney by the Maheno last "evening. Dr. J. McNaughtoh Christie has been appointed medical officer-for the port of Wanganui, in place of Dr. :Earle, who resigns at the end ofjthe month. Mr W. G. Sperring, only son of Mr J. H. Sperring ,of Wanganui, was married at Hawera on Wednesday last to Miss Agnes Annie McNiven, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs McNiven, of Hawera.
The funeral of the late Dr. John M'Keown Withers took place at Southbridge on Monday, and was attended by a very large number of people from all parts of the Ellesmere district. Among those from a distance were Mr C. A. C .Hardy, M.P., Mr R. H. Rhodes, M.P., Dr. Diamond (Christchurch). Representatives were present from ..all the Masonic Lodges in the district. Among those who sent wreaths were the Wanganui Hospital medical staff, the Ota go .University Football Club, the Wangaiviii Hospital Board; ; and Dr and Mrs Nathan . The service at the grave was conducted by the Rev. K. W. Jackson, of St. John's Presbyterian Church, Southbridge, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Erwin, of Christchurch.
