The Labour Council, on the motion of the Seamen's Union delegates, rescinded/ by 66 votes to 49, the extreme powers it gave itself recently, of calling upon all Unions to strike whether they wished or not. The Council stil lreserves the right to check the spread of trouble during periods of industrial unrest. FREMANTLE, March 5Another case of smallpox has occurred on the steamer Paroo.
MELBOURNE, March 4. j An employee at Lamb's store at Mur- : ton reports that, while in charge alone during the dinner hour, two men entered the premises. One, presenting a revolver, ordered him to bail up, whereupon he knocked the intruder down. The thieves, after firing two'harmless shots, and binding and gagging the em- • ployee, ransacked the safe, but secured only about £5. They then made their escape.
