FRIDAY, MARCH stfi. Tho Court was occupied all day hearing a case in which Charles. Baker was charged, on a number of counts, that he on tho 3rd' February last did instruct ono William Morris Scott, by_ letter, in the use of a.ri explosive for. the purposo of breaking and opening-the safe in the Economic premises, and that he did counsel and ."procure Wm. Morris Scott to break into tho Economic and to secure therefrom the contents of the safe. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was defended^ by ,Mr Treadwel!. The following; jury was empanelled : Messrs R. Collins, M. McNiven, S. A. Davis, D. Brider, A. Harri on. E. A. Crewe, Jas. Hugill, A. Campbell, C. F. Giescn, E H. Brider. D. Greenkes, and R. G. McNiven, The latter was chosen foreman.
Mr C. C Huttpn, deputy Crown Prosecutor, conducted the case for the prosecution. Tho evidenc3 was a recapitulation of that given when the caso was before, the Polic3 Court. Tho jury retired at 6 p.m. and returned at'6.ls;w4th a.yerdict of guilty. Mr Treadwell said he would give notico of appeal. ' ' ' . Tho matter will be dealt with this morning.

GISBORNE, March 5. At the Supreme Court, in the case of Joseph Hannonj alleged horse stealing, prisoner was discharged, the Judge stopping the case owing to the contradictory nature of the evidence of the principal witness, whom his Honor severely lectured for insobriety. Norman McLeod, convicted of hpr&e stealing, was sentenced to two years. In the charge against Edward Boniface,, burglary, the jury failed to agree, and he was discharged. INVRftCARGILL, March 4
At the Supreme Court to-dliy, David Fuchauan Vas charged with assaulting Mary Ann Jones with intent to commit repe^ and also with subs quent indecent assault on the same person. Th-3 evidence indicated that there had been a drunken row in Mrs Jones' house, and tho jury found the accused guilty of common assault. The accused, who gavn his age as 20, Ims been in gaol sinco December 29th, and the judge ordered a further imprisonment for three months.
Samuel Francis Irving Crofts sued for divorce from Mary Alison Crofts on th~ ground of adultery with a man named Jack. A decree 'was granted on the usual terms.
