TAIHAPE NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The fire, its cause and effects, are of course the only topics of conversation in the town now, and the.usual cheap advice is plentiful. .What ..concertos the town most however is the rebuilding on tho demolished area. It is quite; .certain that the, offices facing Tui Street will be re-erected at once, but there will probably ba some delay befofe anything is done or even decided with reference to the shops facing the main street.
It is understood that Messrs, Ellis and Darvill are very heavy lo:ers as their insurances were not .up to the recognised insurable proportion. "/ "No doubt the brick wall which stood tween tbelr premises and the. original seat of firo caUssd them to under-esti-mate -their risk^- ThaSEeyeral'assesEofs for tho. insurance companies concerned havo b"een hero arid- niade prompt arrangements "for -; s£ttleuient of claims. Outside of the actual losses at the. fire tho companies 'will be put to some expense in repainting some of the 'scorched buildings on tho two opposite sides of tho streets.
Tho Health Officers for both the European and Maori district are paying Taihapo a visit this week, while Dr J. M. Mason, Chief Health Officer, will be due hero next Friday on departmental business.
