PERSONAL.
Dr. Withers, the newly appointed house surgeon at the Hospital, took uphis duties yesterday. Rev. Dr J. W. MacKenzie, a veteran missionary from Fila, New Hebrides, has arrived in town, and is the guest of Mr A. Morton, of St. Andrew's. Tho Rev. G. P. Davys, vicar of St. Peter's Church, is to leave on a trip to England in April next. During his absence, the Rev. Harry G. Black-! burn, of Hinds, Canterbury, will act in his scad.
Dr. Fergus, who has resigned the position of house surgeon at the Hospital in order to proceed to London., leaves for the South by the midday express to-day. He leave 3 for England by the Whakatane at the end of month. The doctor's many friends will join in wishing him bon voyage, a successful course of study, and a safe return to New Zealand.
In the course of a speech nt the farewell social in St. Paul's .Hall last evening, ,±he Rev. R. M. Ryhurn spoke- eulogistically of Mr A. M.. MoLeod, who for many years has been a manager and elder of the church, and who leaves Wanganui to-day" for Whangarei. Mr Ryburn, speaking for the elders and managers, paid a tribute to the good work Mr McLeod had done, and wished him all prosperity in the future.
