• DUNEDIN, November 26. At the criminal sittings to-day Benjamin Barker was found guilty of an indecent assault on a girl of nine years of age, sentence being deferred. The case against Mary Cresswell, charged with performing an illegal operation, was not completed when the Court rcee.

Mv J. McEnnis, S.M., for the Mt. Ida district, will retire from the magistracy on March 31st next. He has been in the public service for 46 years. He served in the police force for ten years, was clerk of tho Magistrate's Court in Westland for 27 years, and was appointed a Magistrate in 1900.
