Kaniope, the murderer of Gossain, ha?; been hanged at Alipur.. Many women, contrary to Indian custom, followed the bodj' to the burying at Ghat. The remains were placed on a pyre of sandalwood and anointed with ghee as is the case with distinguished persons. The murderer's uncle delivered an oration and was greeted with shouts of "Victory to Kanai."

The mourners included a students.
