MR MACINTOSH'S RECOVERY

(Per Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 6. „ Mr H. L. A. Mackintosh, second officer of the British Antarctic Expedition ship Ninirod, has made a complete recovery from the effects of the dis-' tressmg accident whereby he lost an eye when the vessel was landing stores on tho ice in the far South. Mr Mackintosh has been granted a commission-in the Royal Naval Reserve, the Admiralty authorities evidently considering that the loss of his eye will not debar him from performing any active service in His Majesty's Navy. Shortly .after the return of the Nimrod from the far South, Mr Mackintosh went to Sydney to undergo special treatment for his- injury, and he is still in that city, but it ig understood that, he will return to Lytcelton probably iii Nbvember to rejoin the Nimrod for her second vcyage to the Antarctic.
