THE ROYAL PICTURES.
Judging by last night's experience, the Royal Pictures Syndicate have mado a good move, in deciding to give a weekly entertainment in Wanganui. The . audieilce, which assembled to witness the initial "show" was very large, and it. is• safe to say that all were delighted with the programme, which was of a most interesting nature. The pictures were all new to a Wanganui audience, they were well diversified, and, almost without exception, were beautifully clear and steady. A considerable number of laughable films were shown, but, at the same time, there was a splendid lot of pictures illustrative of topical incidents. For instance, there was an excellent picture of the French President's visit to England to attend the Franco-British Exhibition. The audience were given a capital view of the President leaving Toulon, arriving in England, receiving an enthusiastic welcome, and visiting the Exhibition in company with King Edward and Queen Alexandra. Their Majesties were seen as realistically as though the audience had -been present at the Exhibition. This film , yvas lengthy, and exceedingly interesting. Another picture which met with an enthusiastic reception was that illustrative of the American Fleet at San Francisco, and the great welcome which the Americans tendered to their sailors. "~"-" Grandfather's Pills," ■■ ■" Bewitched Boots,'' "Hayseed's Bargain," " Tribulations of a Mayor,'' and " Cold and Frosty ■ Morning" were most .amusing, and created rpara of laughter. "Blue and Grey" and "For a Crown" weve interesting descriptive stories without words. During the evening Miss Beatrice Butler sang two beautifully illustrated songs, "Won't You Be My Honey?" and ," iSummer." From beginning to end the ,^teri&inmen*tjwas capital, and if the. same standard, is maihtainad the Royal Pictures;' Syndicate are sure to have a long and properous reign.' The management wijl an entire change of prograhime:'each'week, no pictures, however good, being repeated. . The next entertainment' will be given on the 14th inst.
