MARTON, September 2. T , 8 enm S day of the Marton Jockey Club's Spring Meeting was held m beautiful weather. There was a large attendance, big fields, and a surprisingly good course. Seventeen. bookmakers were in evidence, and despite this the totalisator returns showed a slight increase over the corresponding day of last year, the figures being £6841, against £6898. Peregerine led ' from Gleam at the back stretch, and Bagetelle and Netherby dropped back. About three furlongs from homeAncycle displaced Gleam for second place, but was unable to extend Peregerine^ who won Jeasily by three lengths/ with Don Carlos a - poor third. : After a couple of false starts Whetumarama 'jumped out in front, whilst Chattel! was left at the post. At the end of two furlongs, Whetumarama was just in front of Royal Maid, and then came Sir Antrim, the rest of the field being closely bunched. The winner was never headed, and got home comfortably from;. Sir Anrtim, who came very fast at the finish. Royal Maid was a good third. Time, 1.4 2-5. From a capital start Irish Rifle went to the -front, closely followed by Seaman, Silken Rein, and Loiret. Roseal immediately fell to the rear. The four leaders kept their positions for the first half mile, and at the end of that distance Comedian was fifth. A little further on Loiret fell away, and on entering the straight Irish Rifle and Seaman were tiring. Here Silken Rein took command, followed by Comedian, while Maharanui moved out from the ruck, feilken. Ifem finish full- of running, and won easily, with Maharanui a length away Seaman was fourth, and Irish Rifle fifth.
