From Secretary Local Bodies Executive Committee, stating that. arrangements had been made to defend^ the case before tho Arbitration Court re general labourers' dispute.—Received.. From Valuation Department, reporting having sent vouchers to the Tre&s-' ury for the payment of £40 14s 3d subsidy duo Council. Reeceived; ;'• From Barraud and Abraham, Limited,, re chemical fire engines. The price foi' one is £75, for two £140, three months credit free of interest/ and three months ■ at the usual rate. From same, further offering to extend the time of payment until April, 1909, at 6 per cent. ■ Mr McDonald, captain of the Fire Brigade, stated he was perfectly satisfied with the last test, when he brought tho pressure up to 220. -.The:-test-of-tarred wood was a severe one, but the chemical acted instantly, and turnedtho flames black.—lt was decided to have another test at night, and if the Mayor and the captain of the Fire Brigade are satisfied, that the two engines be purchased. From the r secretary of the Marton Cricket Club, applying for permission to use the park during ensuing season. —• Granted, subject to payment of £2 2s. From R. T. 'Morris, applying for use of the borough water for dairy purposes.—Granted on usual terms of payment of £2 per annum. ; The Gas Manager reported sales for the month amounted to £236 17s 3d, the expenditure being £204 13s 2d. During tho month 7£ chains of 3-in. cast iron main, 4s chains of I^-in wrought iron main, and eight services have been laid. Six meters have also been fixed. Applications for gas connections have been received from Messrs Woliley and Swallow, Toia Street. A 1-in. main/will l>e large enough, as it will be coJtti~.~£«d to the high pressure main in Welling ton Road. About nine chains required at a cost of £18. The coal shed will be finished on Tuesday. The road will require forming at the new entrance to tho shed.—Foreman instructed to form the road. THE RESERVOIR. The Mayor stated he had seen Mr Hatrick, of Wanganui, and found that the charge of £95 for the pipes for the waterworks was quite legitimate. He: had been shown several statements in] connection yith other works in the colony which bore .out the charge made for the supply of pipes to Marton Borough Council. \ In reply to a question the Foreman stated there was nine -feet of water in the main; dam, and six feet in the small one. '■:' It was stated that £135 had been expended on the reservoir up to the present date. Further consideration of the question was deferred to Monday next, when it was eixpected that^Mjr Sicely would be present to explain matters. Cr Gibbons asked, on behalf of the Marton Jockey Club, for the use of the chairs in the Opera House. —Granted, subject to the payment of a small fee of 2s 6d per dozen. The foreman reported for the month: —Gravel had been placed on Wellington Road; water tables and drains cleaned out in. by-streets; the footpath, on east side of Broadway had been tarred and sanded; waterpipes had been laid in Pukepapa Road, and one service pipe put in. A good many small cul verts will have to be renewed, and he advised using concrete in lieu of wood. I The locks of both doors of the park pavilion have been broken, and swaggers frequently use the rooms. It is!

It was decided to notify the authori- ; ties controlling the Drill Hall that thej must provide proper public conveniences. It was decided to charge the ownei of tho Chinese laundry premises £2 pei j year for water supply.
